After many obstacles and challenges of being a teenage parent, remembering her late aunt who died of breast cancer, and having a love for caring for others, she dreamed of owning her own clinic to help the underprivileged and filling in that healthcare gap. Melissa mentors nursing students and nurse practitioner students with hopes of instilling a core value of seeing patients as a person or individuals who depend on their provider’s wisdom and knowledge of caring for them as a whole – mind, body, and spirit. As has been quoted, “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” – the spoken words of Mahatma Gandhi. Serving my patients without reservations and without judgment always leads to the best prognosis of a patient’s illness or disease.
